Spa Tips

Q. I understand that I will need to use Chlorine or Bromine to keep my water clean and clear. How often will I need to add chlorine or bromine?

A. A small dose of chlorine or bromine should be added after each use. Make sure to leave the jets on for twenty minutes before covering the spa.

Q. I have read about "shocking" my spa. What is this all about?

A. Shocking is the process of adding chemicals to the water to oxidize organic wastes in the water. Shocking should be done once per week and more if your spa is used more frequently. Be sure to follow the manufacturers instructions.

Q. How often should I clean my spa's filter?

A. Filters should be soaked in filter/degreaser every three months. Filters should also be removed once a month and washed off with a hose.

Q. How important is it for me to regularly check my spa's ph balance and alkalinity?

A. Very important. A low ph level can be very uncomfortable to human skin. A high ph level can cause water to cloud.

Q. How does Valley Pools recommend testing for ph balance?

A. PH test strips are the easiest method of testing for PH and other chemical levels. You simply dip the test strip in the water, remove it, and hold it level for thirty seconds. Then, match the colors on the test strip against the colors on the test strip packaging.

Q. I've tested my water and the ph level is high or low. What do I do now?

A. You will need to add ph decreaser or ph increaser to the water (depending on the situation). Remember to follow the chemical manufacturers instructions.

Q. My water is cloudy and I can't seem to get it cleared up. What should I do?

A. Collect a sample of your spas water and bring it in to the nearest Valley Pools & Spas. Our state-of-the-art water testing lab and qualified personal can test your water and tell you exactly what needs to be done to get it sparkly clean and balanced again.
